Stuart Law Workshop on 20th September – Painting Lily Stems in watercolour. Lillies in Japanese Ukiyo-e, O Tanzaku format (long slim format)

Stuart is heavily influenced by the Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock prints with their fading colours in the background, black ink outlines, sweeping, diagonal composition and long slim formats.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and the more experienced.

Stuart is a trained art teacher, living and working in Cornwall. It was during his degree that he discovered a love of Japanese art, delighting in the bold use of colour, the elegance and simplicity of line.
He will demonstrate his technique and during the morning you will draw from a real flower or trace an image provided. Use masking fluid to mask the drawing and then apply a wash. In the afternoon you will paint the flowers and leaves in watercolour, adding a fine liner outline to finish.

Stuart will provide Alstroemeria (Peruvian Lily Stems) and traceable flower stem photocopies.
